Marc Community Resources, Inc. (MCR) is a private nonprofit organization providing educational, therapeutic, rehabilitation and social services to children and adults with developmental and physical disabilities and behavioral health challenges.
The senior management team at MCR has adopted a strategic initiative to utilize experienced, skilled boomer talent to address many of their key initiatives; and has turned to Experience Matters to help them reach their goals. To learn about engaging skilled boomers, MCR initially enrolled key managers in the Member Connect workshops, formally known as the Learning Lab. MCR managers walked away with new knowledge about engaging skilled boomer talent, creating compelling volunteer job descriptions, planning for an effective volunteer management program and updating marking materials to appeal to boomers. Additionally, the MRC identified internal strategic, tactical and cultural shifts that would need to take place to engage boomer volunteers and achieve optimal contribution to the organization.
After attending the workshop, MCR created a number of key projects requiring a skilled volunteer. To date, MCR has been matched with three boomers through Experience Matters. All three matches started in the last couple of months and will deliver sustaining results to MCR. The specific engagement projects are: Fund Development Manager chartered with creating and implementing a full function fund development strategy; Business Development Manager that will find new social entrepreneur and client employment opportunities and Social Media Associate assigned to develop a social media plan to increase awareness of organization in Maricopa County and train executives, staff and other stakeholders on the value of using social media tools. In addition, MCR continues to submit new projects opportunities to Experience Matters to engage boomer talent and help meet their strategic initiatives.
